BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. CO-OPERATION IN TOWNPLANNING. Dr. Archer Hosking (president) presided at the annual meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society last evening. The president referred to the great .amount of good work accomplished during the year. Everybody had worked splendidly in a good spirit. South Park, acquired during the year, was now public property. The Borough Council had met the society in the right spirit in the acquisition of this area. It remained for the society to submit plans for the park’s future de vclopment. Vandalism had been apparent in the destruction of street trees, but appeared to have received a check. Referring to town-planning the president expressed the hope that the -society would enter heartily into the scheme and give all assistance to ti c Borough Council. The town had to be better planned and the society could extend its beautification scheme along those lines. All interested . in town-planning should join the society. The funds of the society, added Dr. Hosking, were in a satisfactory state. The annual report and balance-sheet (already published in the ‘ ‘Ago”) were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Dr. Archer Hosking; vice-presidents, Messrs C. E. Daniell, L. B. Maunsell and fr. Selby; committee/ Messrs J. Allan, J. Horton, W. Kemp, F. W. Martin, F. Norris, H. M. Peacock, A. W. Reynolds, J. Kerslake, H. E. Gardner, A. H. Brennan, E. W. Payton and R. S. Halliwell. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary and the treasurer for their services in the past year.
