INFORMER REFUSED REWARD. PERTH, March 14. The Chief Justice of Western Australia, in refusing Clarke’s claim for £lOOO reward in connection with the Kalgoorlie murder case, said Clarke lifcd given information solely for his own protection and to clear himself of the charge of murder.—(P.A.). (Clarke, an hotelkeeper at South Boulder, turned King’s evidence in the case against Treffene, his barman, and Coulter, a bookmaker, all engaged in gold stealing, for the murder of Detectives Walsh and Pitman in April last. The two accused were convicted and hanged and Clarke claimed £lOOO reward offered for information, leading to the discovery of the murderers.).
