Mr. A. Ivey has been appointed sole teacher at the Taueru School.
A London cablegram states that Vice-Admiral Brand has been appointed to the command of the Atlantic Fleet.
Mr. H. Guthrie Smith, of Tutira, Hawke’s Bay, has been visiting his brother, Mr. J. Guthrie-Smith, Homebush.
Brother H. Nicholson P.S., secretary of the Druids’ Lodge, leaves for Palmerston North this morning to attend the biennial conference of the North Island Grand Lodge U.A.O.D. Mies Norma Welch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Welch, Lansdowne, has received an appointment on the Dental Clinic staff, Wellington, and leaves Masterton to-day to report for duty on Wednesday. |
The Hon. D. H. Guthrie is to arrive in Masterton to-day on a visit to his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Evans, Benall Street. Mr. Guthrie, who has filled a number of important Ministerial offices, is at present a member of the. Executive Council without. portfolio. Mr. C. C. Marsack, prior to his departure from Taumarunui to take up residence in Masterton, was entertained by members of the legal profession, members of the Borough Council, and a number of residents. Mr. J. A. Gordon, on behalf of the solicitors of Taumarunui, presented Mr. Marsack with a ease of pipes. Mr. Allan Evans, who has bcen"manager of the local branch of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company* Ltd. for the last four and a half years, has been transferred to the Auckland branch. Before entering upon his new duties, Mr. Evans will take a month’s holiday leaves He is to be succeeded in Masterton by Mr. Harold Evans, at present manager of the firm’s Martinborough branch. The death took place at Upper Hutt last evening of Mr. Richard Kelly, a resident of the Featherston district for tho past fifty years. The deceased gentleman, a son of the late Mr. Patrick Kelly, had been ailing for the past two years, and on Friday went to the Upper Hutt to visit his daughter there. Soon after arrival, however, he took ill. A widow, one son (Mr. Patrick Richard Kelly. Featherston) and one daughter (Mrs. Richard Kearney, Upper Hutt) are left. The funeral will leave his late residence, Underhill Road, Featherston, to-morrow at 2 p.m. for the Featherston Cemetery.
