JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE.
FLOOD AND GALE IN STRICKEN DISTRICTS. RELIEF WORK SERIOUSLY HINDERED. (Received Thursday, 5.5 pan.) TOKIO, March 9. The earthquake districts are swept by fierce rain and high winds. The rain swollen rivers are increasing the difficulties in transporting relief, while already the shaken railway embankments are tumbling and making the prospect of an early re-opening of the railways hopeless. A request for the immediate despatch o ftroops to assist in burying the dead and transporting the injured has reached Kyoto City. A battalion of engineers 1b proceeding to the scene. —(Sydney “Sun.”)
