FREEDOM FROM CRIME.

DISTRICT’S FINE RECORD. JUDGE’S COMMENDATION. V The absence of crime in the Wairarapa for three consecutive sessions was commended by His Honour Mr. Justice Reed when informing the Grand Jury at the opening of the half yearly sittings of the Supreme Court yesterday that again there was nothing to engage their attention. After being presented with the timehonoured white gloves by the Registrar, His Honour evpressed his pleasure at enjoying the experience for the first time in his six years’ of duty on the Bench. He would not attempt to say that the prolonged freedom from crime was due to the absence of liquor—a very controversial matter—but would put it down to the law-abiding class of person inhabiting the district.
