FEATHERSTON.

monthly meeting of the Featherston School Committee was held last night, those present being: Messrs. C. Kenward (chairman), W. Nicie (secretary), F. Smith, F. Dohnt, G. Holdcroft, Murphy, Avery and F. L. Combs (headmaster). z Accounts amounting to £l9 14s 2d were passed for payment. The secretary reported a, credit balance of £9l 14s 6d.
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Nicie, Avery, Smith and Kenward was net up, with power to act, in the matter of concreting the school sheds. It was decided to obtain a price for the construction of a suitable stand for the gramophone and for the storage of records. It was also decided to write to the Education Board regarding a horse paddock for the use of the children attending the school.
After some discussion it was decided to send a deputation to the Borough Council asking for a refund of half the proceeds of the recent school swimming candual, and for easier access to the bath* for school children during school hours.
The matter of the utilisation of a bequest by the late John Vicary was left over for discussion at next meeting, when Mr. Smith’s suggestion that it take the form of some permanent recognition of the testator, will be considered.
Mr. Holland, secretary of the Featherston Fire Brigade, has returned from Gisborne, where he represented the Martinborough brigade at the United Fire Brigade’s Conference- Captain Skipage, the Featherston delegate, will be returning shortly.
