METHODIST SUPPORT. MENACE OF SECULAR INSTRUCTION. AUCKLAND, March 8. The conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand was 'continued I to-day, the president (Dr. H. Ranston) . presiding. A resolution was passed urging ministers and members of the Methodist Church to do all in their I power to secure the passing of a Religious Exercises in Schools Bill dur--1 ing the next session of Parliament. In moving the resolution, tho Hon. L. M. Isitt, M.L.C., said that all Christian demoninations in. New Zea- | land, with the exception of the Roman j Catholic Church, were behind the move- | ment. A majority in the House of : Representatives favoured the measure, j but the majority in tho Legislative Council was uncertain. Mr. Isitt deplored the fact that there were thousands of children living in homes where the name of Jesus was never heard. It was impossible for ministers to reach all the young people of the Dominion and unless Parliament realised that secular education was a menace, tho outlook for the religious progress of the country was not bright. -(P.A.)
