ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY.
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. INCREASE IN REVENvjI. The monthly meeting of the Warne rapa Power Board was held in Carterten yesterday. Mr. J. W. Kershaw presided and there were also present Messrs. T. V. Moore, W. A. Tate, W. Benton, A. C. Pearce, R. J. King and D. McLauchlan. Apologies were received from Messrs. T. Jordan and W. Howard Booth.
It was decided to arrange for cooking demonstrations as recommended by the manager. Mr. Magnusson (office staff) was granted a further three months’ leave on half pay, and Air. Blackwell (Martinborough line staff) was granted three months leave on full pay, the position to be reviewed at the expiry of. that period.
It was decided to advise the Waitemata Power Board, in response to an inquiry that the Wairarapa Board considered that one-half per cent, of gross revenue was a sufficiently large amount to provide a general advertising scheme.
The secretary-manager reported that the revenue for the month showed an increase of £392 over the correspond- ’ ing month of last year. The total increase f(jr the year so far was £7302. In spite of the steadily increasing load, ; the average peak had remained practically stationery since November. Ow- - ing to careful operations at Kourarau and the sub-station, the very fullest use under present conditions was being made of the load the board was taking from Mangahao, and the water supply at’Kourarau was being conserved to the best advantage. During the past three weeks the water level in the upper dam had risen two feet The level of the Creek below the lower powder house had been considerably lowered by removing stones from ' the bed of .the creek. These were beingwused to further protect the power , bouse, making a necessary and permanent improvement. There had been a decided increase in the Masterton district in the amount of installation \vork being carried out. The other districts had maintained steady progress as previously. The Masterton Hospital installation appeared to be working satisfactorily. A decided improvement had been made in the regulation of the hospital load and during the past three weeks very good results had been shown.
It was'decided to advise the solicitors for Erina Tahana (Gladstone), who had threatened to take proceedings, that the Board was not prepared to- increase its offer of £lO in connection with compensation for damage done to property at Kourarau. The manager reported that the special rolls in connection with the proposed Wangaehu and Weraiti loans had been open for inspection and no objections had been lodged. Sj/ecial resolutions were passed by the board authorising the rolls to be signed and sealed. It was decided to take the poll in the Wangaehu area on March 25. The engineer reported that twenty house services had been connected in the Alasterton area during the month. All the work required by the Government inspector had been, carried out. Seven new services had been erected ii. the central area, and fourteen old services had been reconstructed in the Carterton area to comply with Government regulations. This completed all alterations required by the Government in this area. Seven new services had been erected in the southern area. All work required by the Government had been carried out. The preliminary survey of the Lake Ferry line had been completed and it was expected that 1 the erection of the line would be commenced in two weeks. The two plants at Kourarau had been operating continuously in parallel with Alangahao for the past month. There had been no shortage of water at Kourarau during the month.
