AMATEUR STATUS.

DECISION BY ROWING AUTHORITIES. LONDON, March 7. A conference of rowing authorities, convened by the National Amateur Rowing Association, adopted the definition of amateur oarsmen, sculler, or coxswain, the following clauses being agreed upon:—(a) Who never rowed, sculled or steered for a money wager or staked a bet; (b) ■who never taught pursued, or assisted in the practice of rowing or any athletics for pecuniary gain; (c) who never knowingly rowed, sculled, or steered with or against a professional for a prize; (d) who has never been employed in or about boats for pecuniary gain as seamen on sailing or auxiliary craft, nor as boatman, waterman, lighterman, fisherman or builder of racing, rowing, or sculling boats; (e) who has never sold or raised money on any prize won. The latter part of clause (d) shall be locally interpreted.—*( Sydney “Sun.”)
