REFORMING THE BULL FIGHT.

ARMOUR ON HORSES. UNSUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT. (Received Monday 7 p.m.) MADRID, March 7. The opening of the bull fight season at the Plazade Toros was of exceptional interest, because armour on horses was tested for the first time in public. This was done by Government order. The first armour consisted of leather and rubber belting round ttye animal’s belly. The armour also covered most of the horse’s breast. Two horses were quickly killed, the public shouting and laughing at the failure of the device. The third and fourth bulls similarity mauled the horses, but metal armour on the fifth horse was fairly efficacious, though the picador was seated so high that ho was unable to lance the bull effectively. Experts say that the bull fight must be carried out as in the past, or be abolished. Armoured

horses are an impossible expedient.— (A: and N.Z.)
