REMITS FOR DOMINION CONVENTION.
The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in Knox Hall on Thursday afternoon, twenty-one members answering the roll call. The president and secretary reported having attended the district executive meeting held at the Hutt on February 9 and 10 and the union decided to give its loyal support to the following recommendations to be forwarded from that meeting to the Dominion Convention, to be held at Auckland from March 23-30.
That the present Wellington district be divided into two—unions north of Otaki on the one line and north of Masterton on the other, forming one union, and those south of these towns forming another. That persons other than those immediately concerned and recognised social workers, be admitted to court during the hearing of domestic affiliation and maintenance cases only by special permission of the magistrate.
That we desire to point out the grave danger of allowing girls of sixteen to leave homo at will—in cases of cruelty they should be removed or in cases whore families are seriously overcrowded.
After a full discussion on the need foT the establishment of headquarters, the secretary was instructed to write assuring the Dominion officers of the union’s confidence in them and of its desire to help in the project.
It was decided to make a levy of Is per member to provide the amount due to the New Zealand organising fund, and £1 was collected at the meeting. A report was given by Mrs. N. Miller representing the union on the New Zealand Alliance, of the 'Snb-Council area meeting held in Masterton on December 4. A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to Airs. Miller. Arrangements for the Shop Day to be held on April 6 were made as follows:—Produce Stall: Mesdames McRoss and McDiarmid. Sweets and cakes: Mesdames Trevonia, McIver and Miss Jones. Novelty and Work: Mesdames White, Rouse and Freeman. Jumble: Mesdames Williams, W. Judd and N. Mill Cr.
It was decided to hold a gift afternoon at the residence of Airs. S. J. Smith, High Street, on Afarch 24.
AfterZobn tea was served by Mes ; dames Ross and Willoughby.
