MR. LANG AND THE UPPER HOUSE.
THE GOVERNOR’S STAND.

SYDNEY, March 2.
At a meeting of the State Executive Council to-day, the Premier (Mr. Lang) asked the Governor to define hia attitude towards additional appointments tc the Legislative Council. The Governor (Sir Dudley de (’hair) said that during the lifetime of the present Parhe would not consent to the appointment of any additional Legisia tivq Councillors. Mr. Lang said Cabinet had decided to obtain the Governor’s views on this matter on account of the action taken by the Upper House in regard to the Family Endowment Bill. He added that the Government was determined to use every effort in its power to secure the passing of thia measure.
The Special Committee of the Legislative Council set up by that Chamber tc inquire into the actuarial basis of the child endowment scheme held its first meeting to-day, when statistical evidence was taken.—(A. and N.Z.).
