HOLDINGS OF BIG GROUPS. SPLENDID FLEETS. LONDON, February 27. Interesting details respecting tho British shipping trade are contained in “Fair Play’s” annual summary, just published. Six big groups, comprising the Peninsular, Oriental, the Royal Mail, the Ellerman, the Cunard,Furness Withy, and Holts, own between them 43.7 per cent, of the tonnage registered in Britain, and, if tankers, small craft under 500 tons gross be excluded, their fleets represent more than half the total tonnage available for overseas trade, being greater than the total fleet of any other country in the world, except the United States, and consisting of the finest and most up-to-date vessels navigating the Seven Seas. —(A. and N.Z.).
