A MEMORABLE JUBILEE.
CELEBRATIONS IN PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON N., February 28. The programme of festivities in connection with the celebrations which are to mark the jubilee of the borough of Palmerston North commenced to-day. The town is gaily decorated. The kscheme of illuminations which was given a trial last evening, is particularly fine, all parts of the Square, and all public buildings being decorated with clusters of multi-coloured lights. Already there has been a large influx of visitors for tho celebrations. Many of those who played a p ar t i n the early struggles of the town are revisiting the scene of their early endeavours, and many friendships are being renewed. ‘lt is anticipated that by Thursday next, when their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York visit Palmerston North, there will be well over a thousand visitors in the town. Practically al! available accommodation has been booked for some time. There are no public functions to-day, but to-night there will be a large electric light snorts meeting at the Showgrounds.—(P.A.)
