BAND CONTEST
QUICKSTEP TO ASHBURTON MILITARY. I B GRADE TO INVERCARGILL. QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S SCOOP SPECIAL PRIZES. WELLINGTON, February 26. The weather was ideal for the quickstep competition on the Athletic Park yesterday. The attendance was about fifteen thousand. Thirty-six bands competed in the quickstep and separate prizes were alZitted in each grade. The A grade played C. Trussell's “Wairarapa,” and the B grade played “The Outpost.” At the elose of the competition the massed bands played the contest march under the baton cf the judge (Mr. Halliwell). The Booscy Shield for the B grade hand obtaining the highest aggregate music marks in the two test selections and the nuiekstep went to the stk Mounted Rifles (Oamani), and the MeCup for the band securing’ the inost points in the hymn contest, to the Greymouth Municipal-. < Champion of Champions (silver cornet and gold medal).—-J.
