A BRITISH VENTURE.
VANCOUVER TO SYDNEY FLIGHT.
VANCOUVER, February 22.
A Vancouver to Sydney, 7700 miles, flight, is projected by four British airmen, starting from Vancouver early in June in a Sikorsky seaplane. The party comprises two Australians, one Canadian and one Englishman. Three of the party are Captain Jone Clarke, of England, engineer; L. T. Palmer, Canadian; and Flying-officer Gilbert Jenkins, of Melbourne. Captain F. A. Giles (navigator) is eoming later from Adelaide. The airmen plan to forestall similar flights under preparation by Americans starting from San Francisco and San Diego. The seaplane would weigh 24,0001 b, and be capable of a speed of a hundred miles an hour for 40 hours. Honolulu, 2450 mles, would be the first stage, and thence to Fanning Island and tho Fijis and on to Sydney. They expect to reach Sydney in ten days.— (A. and N.Z.)
DE PINEDO’S JOURNEY.
A FORCED DESCENT.
LONDON, February 22.
The Italian aviator De Pinedo was forced to descend in the sea near For nando Noronha, an island 300 miles from the qf.ast of Brazil. The aeroplane was towed to land by the Brazilian cruiser Barozzo.—(A. and N.Z.) (A report of De Pinedo’s landing at Port Natal, on the mainland, was cabled apparently when the aviator was said to he heading for Port Natal after twice circling the island of Fernando Noronha. As a matter of fact, the weather conditions forced De Pinedo to turn shortly and descend into the sea which was very rough, tho Barrozzo, meanwhile standing by. Eventually the aeroplane was safely moored at Fernando Noronha.)
