WILD RIOTING IN CHICAGO. AN OFFICIAL SHOT. (.Received Wednesday, 7.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, February 22. The Chicago elections for the maycralty were held amid unprecedented rioting. Seven men were seriously injured and three election officials were kidnapped. Twenty-six men ' and a quantity of revolvers and machine

guns were captured in a raid on an aidermanie candidate’s headquarters. All the ballots from one precinct were stolen. It is reported that in one ward there were ten fist-brawls during the first hour of voting. The police are armed with machine guns. Sixty squads of detectives and thousands O'f watchers and special guards were unable to cope with the situation. An election official was shot four times, probably fatally. Ho was wounded in a row with, another official over the performance of electoral duties.—(A. and N.Z.)
