As many other more fortunate little girls hug their dollies and .mother them Molly looked upon the eight other children as her own. They were prisoners on the Grimes’ farm and where they came from nobody knew, but Grimes would never tell. A better place he could never have chosen. Here, on the edge of the swamp, the bog was dark and bottomless, and a sure deathtrap. With the hard work and the cold weather, the children lived days of misery and nights of horror. Their only hope was Molly. She never gave up. None of life’s experiences can entirely quell the spirit of fun in a child’s heart and so the dramatic enisodes of the baby farm are relieved by moments of richest comedy with Mary as the leading spirit in the fun-making. See the race of the police patrol-boat and runaway speedsters, and the alligators infesting the lagoons. These are features of “Sparrows,” with Mary Pickford in the leading role. There is a good supporting programme. Box plan at Henderson’s.
