A Paris message states that General de Cary, who commanded the French Fourth Army at the Battle of the Marne is dead.
Mr. N. McArtney, who represents the Masterton Swimming Club on the Wellington Centre, was present at the club's carnival last night.
The resignation of Dr. H. P. Pickerill as Dean of the Dental Faculty of the University df Otago has been accepted by the Otago University Council to take effect as from the end of July next. Dr. Pickerill will probably open a private practice in Sydney.—(P.A.).
