UNITED WITH INNINGS TO SPARE This" match was continued at the Park Oval on Saturday and resulted in a three-point win for United by an innings and fifty-five runs. On the previous Saturday’s play United had madq 170 to which Old Boys responded with the small score of 30. Following on they had lost five wickets for sixty-six runs in their second innigs. Uttley and Logan, the not-out men, continued Old Boys’ innings, but without adding to the score Uttley was bowled by a good leg break from Renner. McClure followed, but in F. Hoar’s second over Logan was well taken at square leg by A. Hoar with-
out any alteration to the score. 66—7 ’ —lO. Wilson joined McClure and with the total at 70 McClure was unlucky in playing a ball from F. Hoar into his wicket. McMichael helped Wilson to carry the score to 82 and was then smartly stumped by Voyce off F. Hoar for 5. With nine wickets.down for 82 J. Patrick relieved F. MELBOURNE TOURISTS. DRAW WITH TARANAKI. NEW PLYMOUTH, February 20. The match between the Melbourne touring team and Taranaki ended in a draw. To Taranaki's first innings score of 259 Melbourne replied with 250, the feature of which was Wood’s score of 75 made in less than half an hour. It included eight sixes, five of which were in succession. Taranaki’s second strike began disastrously, four wickets falling for 19. Taranaki made 132 for nine wickets and declared. Melbourne had only 20 minutes left and lost two wickets cheaply before stumps were drawn.— (P.A.)
