Representatives of the Christchurch unemployed, after a talk with Mr. C. P. Agar (president of the Chamber of Commerce) ggvo an assurance on Saturday that they would use their influence with the men to prevent a demonstration taking place when the Duke cf York visits Christchurch. Mr. /Agar’s argument that the men had jiothing to gain and everything to lose by .such a demonstration at length prevailed. He told the unemployed lenders that a demonstration would not help them to influence those who wore apathetic towars the unemployed, and would probably disgust and antagonise those at present willing to help.— (P.A.).
