AQUATIC CHAMPIONS.

CAHNIVAL TO MORROW NIGHT. LIFE-SAVING DISPLAYS. Swimming enthusiasts are promised one of the greatest treats possible at the Masterton Club’s second night carnival, which is to be held in the Dixon Street baths to-morrow evening. Advice was received on Saturday that Rix Trot, the provincial champion 100 yards swimmer will be present, while another competitor making the trip from Wellington is W. Hicks, recognised as the most remarkable diver in New Zealand of recent years. In addition to these performers, the Maranui Surf team of twelve first-class swimmers, including Claridge, McHardy, Murrell, Eversleigh and Fletcher, will compete in all thy senior events. The entries are so large that there will be four heats in the .100 yards ami five in the 50 yards, v>hile 13 have nominated for the 220 yards and seven for the 440 yards. The Maranui team will arrive from the North to-morrow afternoon and will give demonstrations of life-saving, both land drill and water work, first at the West School baths and later at the Dixon Street baths. Though the demonstrations are for the benefit of the school children mainly, all interested are invited by the Masterton Club to be present. Anyone desiring instruction in swimming may receive lessors during the afternoon free of charge.
