A TIMELY EFFORT.
The carnival'to he given to-morrow evening by the Masterton Swimming Club gains special interest from the fact that members of the Maranui Club, which has taken leading rank in lifesaving work in the Dominion, are to participate. All who can do so should make a point, not only of seeing these swimmers in action a,t the carnival, but dT attending tnc of the life-saving displays to be given to-morrow afternoon. Efforts are being made to assemble amany school children as possible at the Masterton West School and Dixon Street baths, but adults also should ‘ntercst themselves in this matter. T\e recent record of drowning fatalities sets all possible emphasis on the necessity of fostering life-saving work, and the necessity is nowhere more obvious than in a district like this where swimming and bathing are deservedly high in favour. The public should support and encourage the efforts that are being made by the local and visiting f lubs to popularise life-saving.
