ROMNEYS FOR AUSTRALIA.

A RECORD SHIPMENT. At the annual ram fair conducted on behalf of the sheep breeders of the Wairarapa it was well established, that this district, so long and favourably known as an ideal environment for the production of stud sheep, has asserted a very definite claim as being the homo of Romney sheep in New Zealand. In addition to taking the premier honours at- practically all important shows in the North Island, the bulk of the principal prize winning flocks in [other parts of New Zealand owe their successes to the introduction of stud sheep drawn from leading Wairarapa flocks. That this is widely recognised was made clear at the stud nani fair by the large attendance of breeders from practically every province in the Dominion. In addition there was a considerable number of buyers from overseas. As a result Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., shipped quite a number of stud rams purchased at the fair to Australian breeders. Following on the fair the firm also disposed of a 4-tooth stud ram bred in the famous Waiorongomai stud to Mr. W. R. Glasson. president of the Long Woolled Sheep Breeders’ Association of Australia, at the record price of 500 guineas. Since then Mr. Glasson and another prominent breeder of New South Wales, Mr. G. N. Ma-, gill, have made very extensive purchases of stud ewes from the Waiorongomai flock and from Messrs J. H. McLean and Co, and a shipment of these is being made this week by the Marama. There are 116 ewes altogether going forward. Amongst these are a lot of special show sheep which Messrs Glasson and Magill intend to exhibit at the Sydney Royal Show. The shipment is the most valuable that has yet been made to Australia of stud Romneys. In addition to the stud rams that have already gone forward from the flocks of Messrs William Perry and Son, ( ‘Penrose,” Masterton, Q. Donald, “Aloa.” Featherston, and R. W. Matthews, Waiorongomai, Featherston, another very high-class oneshear ram is being shipped from the Waiorongomai flock. The sale of this ram, also at a high price, was finalised by cable. New Zealand sheep were very successful at the last Sydney Royal Show, and in view of the recent heavy purchases from leading New Zealand studs, there should be a splendid representation at the next Royal Sheep Show to be held at Sydney in July. Another shipment of stud Romneys Will also be made by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., to Australian clients early in April. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., also advise that they will be shipping forward on account of various New Zealand breeders a considerable consignment of stud cattle for competition at the Royal Easter Show, commencing at Sydney on April 11. In addition to Hereford, Shorthorn and Jersey cattle, the Dominion will also be worthily represented in the fatstock section, as the firm are shipping forward on account of the well-known Hereford breeder of Wanganui, Mr. G. F. Moore, “Bushy Park,” his champion purebred Hereford bullock. This magnificent animal, which has been a leading exhibit at the last two Royal Shows, and again carried off the championship at the Masterton Show this week, beating there the bullock which was champioij. at th 6 last Wellington Winter Show, should prove to be'a very worthy representative for tho Dornin-
