FEILDING EWE FAIR.
A GOOD SALE. PEN OF TWO-TOOTHS FETCH 355. FEILDING, February 18. At the Feilding annual ewe fair tpday over 24,000 ewes were offered to u very large attendance of buyers. The majority of tlio ewes were quite up to the excellent sr -ndaid customary at this fixture, only a few pens of inferior sheep being offered. For these latter competition was not at all keen. On the other hand, bidding for all sheep showing any quality was spirited, and a better sale than was anticipated resulted, although in a. few cases prices did not reach vendors’ reserve. Purebred five-year Romney ewes on account of J. D. Hocking brought 28/(5. A. few pens of extra good four-year sheep made 20/ to 21/4, but the majority of four and five-year ewes, suitable for breeding black face lambs, brought 14/6 to 19/. Quite good sheep for this purpose sold at 16/6 to 17/, while inferior lines made 10/ to 14/. Lines o’ 4-th, 6-th and m.a. sold well and brought bigger prices in proportion than older sheep, selling from 23/ to 27/ for good average sheep. As usual 2-th ewes were a feature of the fair, over 6000 being yarded, specially selected pens being sold well up to the usual standard. The first pen. offered contained 100 very nice sheep, and realised 31/. Medium 2-ths 21/6, 22/, 22/10; very fair do., 25/6, 25/9, 27/, 28/2; better class, 29/6, 30/, 31/. The highest price realised was for a pen of high-class 2-ths on account of J. D. Hocking, which, fetched 35/. —(P.A.).
