annual meeting. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. WELLINGTON, February 17. The annual meeting of the New Zealand? Newspaper Proprietors’ Association was held to-day, the president (Mr C. W. Earle) presiding. There was a large attendance of members. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. Charles Earlo; General Committee, Messrs C. W. Earle (chairman), A. G. Henderson, William Easton, H. Horton, AV. C. Leys, H. B. Bell, J. Coombs, and A. MeNieol; Advertising Committee: Messrs J. Coombe (chairman), W. Easton; G. C. Codlin, A. M. Burns, E. A Blundell, and R. P. Furness; Labour Committee: Messrs A. G. Henderson (chairman), E. C. Huie, G. C. Codlin, W. C. Weston, P. Proud (the committee to have power to elect another member); Paper Committee: Messrs AV Cecil Leys, H. Horton, P. Blundell, E C. Huie, E. G. Kerr, A. McNicol and AV. C. Cargill; Parliamentary Committee: Messrs A. M. Burns, L. Blundell, E. C. Huie, S. H. Palm er-J ones; treasurer, Mr AV. J. Blundell; auditor, Mr. G. S. McNair; secretary, Mr L. J. Berry.

Reference was made in the president’s address to the losses sustained in membership during the year and the following resolution was carried: “That the association place on record its deep regret at the death of old and honoured members, Sir Henry Brett, Mr. Arthur Capping, the Hon. AV. J. Geddes and Mr. F. Pirani, and its appreciation of their earnest lives and long and valuable services to the Dominion, and that the sympathy of the association, be conveyed to the relatives of the late members.”

The sympathy of the association was also extended to Messrs A. Burns (Christchurch) and A. Lucas (Nelson), who have suffered bereavements.

It was resolved to make the place of next meeting Wellington.

The “Pictorial News” of the New Era Printing Company, Auckland, the “Westport Times” and “Westport News” were added to the membership of the association.

Discussing the operation of the Apprentices’ Act, dissatisfaction was expressed on account of the difficulty of its administration and lack of uniformity in practice, and the opinion was expressed that the Act should be simplified and its administration placed entire ly in the hands of the Labour Department.

The president was congratulated on the honour bestow.ed upon him by His Majesty the King, and an appropriate minute was recorded.

Mr. Robert AV. Bell was heartily congratulated on the distinction accorded him in electing him as president of the World’s Press Congress, and a .motion to that effect was carried by acclama-tion.—-(P.A.).
