“ONLY A KIT OF TOOLS.”
MASTER PLUMBER’S COMPLAINT. AUCKLAND, February 15. The annual conference of the Federation of New Zealand Master Plumbers opened to-day. Mr. Kyle (the president) expressed regret that their trade seemed gradually to be getting into a moi., decadent state. They had opportunities for men of ability to build up business owing to the ease with which competition was created by men with only a kit of tools. Once they were registered they were allowed to* take out permits to do work. He trusted that the incoming president, who would be resident in Wellington, and the executive would be able to devote a little time to an endeavour to combat this grave menace to the trade. He suggested that the executive should exert its utmost efforts ih seeking legislation to protect the trade in connection with apprentices, universal by-laws, the issuing of permits, and journeymen doing work on Sundays and holidays.—(P.A.)
