THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1927. A SPLENDID SHOW.

The authorities, members and officials of the Masterton A. and P. Association are to be congratulated very heartily upon the all-round excellence of the Show which opened at Solway yesterday. More than ever this year, the association is entitled to claim that it has organised a front-rank Show in a perfect setting. The Solway ground has long been famed for its beauty, but since last year the lay-out of the exhibition areas and stands has been rearranged and greatly improved. In the new conditions full justice is done to what is probably the most picturesque showground in the Dominion. Yesterday there was much approving comment on the changes effected, and no doubt these changes will be appreciated in full measure to-day. by the big crowds that Always assemble on People’s Day. As may be seen from the extended report which we publish to-day, and particularly from the observations of the various judges, the Show is setting in all its main features the high standards that were predicted. It is the verdict of those who speak in the matter with authority that no better exhibition of fat stock, and particularly of fat lambs, has ever been seen in the Wairarapa. Much, interest is being taken also in the numerous horse-jump-ing and other ring evpnts, and in the motor and other trade and industrial displays. Unstinted praise is due to the executive members and officials whose well-directed efforts are responsible for the smooth-working efficiency with ■which the Show is being conducted. *

Comments by the various judges on the quality of the stock exhibits are in the main favourable, but it will be noted that some of the judges have pointed to faults and shortcomings-and indicated improvements that might -be effected. This, of course, is as it should be. In stock-raising as in other undertakings, there is no such thing as attaining perfection. However good the results achieved may be, there is always room for improvement. Every intelligent farmer and stock-breeder welcomes the considered criticism of show judges. A judge can render no greater or more acceptable service than by pointing the way to further progress and improvement. It is, of course, as a stimulus to such progress and improvement that an agricultural and pastoral show serves its primary and most important purpose.
