SATURDAY'S MATCHES. MODERATE SCORING. IN SENIOR GRADE GAMES. Moderate scoring was the order of the day in tho senior grade cricket matches played on Saturday. On the Park Oval United and Old Boys commenced their contest, the former compiling 170 and the latter 30 in the first innings, and ending with live wickets down for 66 runs in the second effort. At Carterton in the first innings Martinjborough scored 125 and Carterton 195. Both games will be continued next Saturday. UNITED v. OLD BOYS. The United v r . Old Boys mateh was commenced on tie Park Oval on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. The scoring was only moderate, this being due to the crumbling up of the wicket. United won the toss and batted and at the fall of the last wicket had compiled the fair total of 170. F. Hoar was mainly responsible for this total, having got together 80 runs before McMichael caught him at deep slip off Falloon. His was an aggressive innings, 56 of his runs coming from boundary hits. Off one over from McMichael he hit one six, three, fours and one two. He was lucky in being missed on three different occasions, but his innings was most valuable to his side. Others to reach double figures were J. Patrick 15, A 4 Hear 14, and T. Voyce, who played patient cricket for his 10 runs.
Old Boys with nine men could only manage to total the poor score of 30. The bowling of the Hoar brothers was excellent, A. Hoar securing 3 for 9 and F. Hoar 4 for 15. Old Boys, not having acquired the number of runs to save a follow on, commenced their second innings and at the drawing of stumps had lost five wickets for sixty-six runs. Old Boys still require 74 runs with five wickets in hand to overtake United’s first innings score:—• UNITED.

United 154 and one for. 15 def carted High School B, 111 and 91. MELBOURNE v. HAWKE’S BAY. A DRAWN GAME. VISITORS’ FINE BATTING DISPLAY. NAPIER, February 12. The Melbourne v. Hawke’s Bay match concluded here to-day in fine weather, the game resulting in a draw. At the conclusion of Friday’s play, the home side had 247 on and the Australians had one down for 102. The visitors declared at 563 for seven wiefarts and put Hawke’s Bay in. When stumps were drawfl, Hawke’s Bay had lost, five wickets for 127. Sandford delighted the crowd with a fine open
display of batting for 192, the total including 30 fours. Jewell played a fine innings for 137, being dropped three times after he had passed the century. Scores:— MELBOURNE. First Innings.
