It has been decided to form a Sports Club in Martinborough, and a meeting is to be held on Friday to elect officers. Wedding. A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Paul’s Church, Paraparaumu, on February 3, when Mr. Charles William Jensen was married to Miss Freda Sybil Allen, both of Carterton. The bride, was given away by her father, Mr. Ernest Allen. The Rev. G. K. Moir, of Otaki, was the officiating clergyman. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was partaken of at the Paraparaumu Beach, after which tho happy couple left by car on their honeymoon. Jubilee Show. It was mentioned at Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, that the special prize money for the Jubilee Show had been allotted, making an attractive programme, with substantial increases in all classes, and offering prizes in many classes equal to Royal Show prizes. Annual Picnic. The annual picnic of St. Mark’s Sunday School, Carterton, will be held on Saturday next at Adlam's Bush,, Parkvale. New Lease. The Wairarapa Rugby Union has been in negotiation with the Wairarapa P. and A. Society for a further lease ot the Carterton showgrounds for the football season, the existing lease expiring at tho end of the 1927 season. It was reported at Saturday’s meeting of the society that the terms of the new lease would be for a further five years, at a rental of £lOO per season, which is an increase of £25 over the existing lease. An agreement is also being entered into with the Carterton i Amateur Athletic Club, and the Carterton Football Club, for the use of the . grounds for a period of six yeans, each club during their seasons to have t the use of the grounds twice weekly. . In the matter of lighting the grounds with electricity, each club has to provide one light, and the P. and A. So f ciety one light. The Athletic Club will f pav ten per cent, on receipts from gate t and stands at sports gatherings held . during the first three years, after which the percentage will be renewed.
FEATHERSTON. (“Tho Age” Special). Mr. and Mrs. C. Elgar have postponed their departure for Europe until next week. Mrs. Collins returned from Paekakariki on Friday. Constable McLeod has resumed duty after his vacation. At Friday’s meeting of the Featherston County Council, the Town Clerk wrote, drawing attention to the fact that the council's usual donation of £7 10s to the Featherston Library had not been received during the past two years. It was decided to remedy the oversight. Bowling. A very closely-conteistcd.game for the champion fours was played at Greytown on Thursday, between the holders. Messrs W. F. Stent, W. Friend, J. Reach, R. G. Viles (s). and Messrs H. Clark, H. Cundy, F. W. Smith, and C. Rea (s), of Featherston, the challengers winning by 21 to 18. Karitana Appeal.
A meeting of the Featherston branch cf the Plunket Society was held on Friday to discuss the raising of funds for the new Karitane Home in Wellington, which it is hoj>ed to have free of debt when it is opened next month by the Duchess of York. Those present at tho meeting were: Mrs. Nicalaus, and Mr. Winsloe, representatives of the appeal fund; Mesdames W. J. Martin, Perry, Tyler, Blundell, Kershaw and Beale (Martinborough); Mesdames Ball and Reed (Greytown); Mesdames Q. Donald, R. Matthews, R. Barton, D. Riddiford, Campbell Peace, N. C. C. Shepherd. H. Ayre, G. Nelson, Bloxam, McKenzie, Price, A. Clark (Featherston).
In addressing the meeting Mr. Winsloe detailed a scheme by which it is l oped to be able to free the home from debt. It was arranged that a flag day be hold locally on Thursday next and 'on subsequent days, the proceeds to assist in this project Amateur Athletics. At a meeting of the sports ground and children’s committee of the Featherston Sports Club during the week-end, it was decided to draw up a programme of events for children for the forthcoming meeting on February 19, and that the horse events be held on an area adjacent to the athletic grounds. Mr. Hazelman was appointed timekeeper for the horse events and Mr. Johnston to arrange the children's events. The Masterton Motor Cycle Club offered to include motor football on the programme.
