PERSONAL.
Mr. R. Veale, recently appointed agricultural instructor at the Wairarapa High School, has taken up his duties. Tho death occurred at Otorohanga of Charles Holdaway at the age of 83 years, a former pioneer of the Ballance district. He was a well-known identity in connection with various institutions in the early days of the Ballance settlement. At one time he resided at Masterton.—(P.A.).
A large number of clients of the Bank of New Zealand in Masterton assembled yesterday afternoon to farewell the manager, Mr. W. D. Horne, who has been appointed an inspector with headquarters at Auckland. Mr. J. Caselbcrg, on behalf of those present, in making a presentation of a grandfather’s clock, feelingly referred to the esteem in which Mr. Horne was held, and congratulated him on his appointment as inspector. Mr. Caselberg’s remarks were endorsed by the Rt. Rev. Monsignor McKenna, V.G., and Messrs C. E. Daniell and V. E. Donald. In reply, Mr. Horne stated that he would always have a very warm spot in his heart for Masterton and would continue to sing its praises vzherever he went. He was taking with him a large number of photographs of the town and district and would be a good publicity agent.
