ADDINGTON MARKETS.
PRICES FOR FATS MAINTAINED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 9. At Addington market there was an exceptionally heavy entry of store sheep and lambs, and average pennings of fat cattle, fat lambs and fat sheep. The store sheep were lower in value, but the fat stock was quite up to' last week, beef and fat lambs being a shade better. There was a very large entry of store sheep and nearly all the available accommodation was filled. Drafts were forward from as far north as Hick’s Bay, the North Island, Marlborough Sounds, Nelson, the West Coast and the Chatham Islands. There were a good many lots of Bank’s Peninsular lambs, and ewes from various parts of Canterbury and Otago. On account of the continued spell of dry weather buyers were not prepared to purchase freely, and prices generally were lower .than last week. Lambs were down by a shilling- a head. All classes of ewes were easier by 1/- to .1/6 a head, aged and low-conditioned being most difficult to quote. There were numerous passings. The following is the range of values:— Forward rape lambs 19/- to 20/6, medium lambs 17/3 to 18/9, small lambs 13/9 to 15/6, cull and inferior lambs 12/- to 13/6, good halfbred wether lambs 18/6 to 20/11, medium half bred lambs 16/6 to 18/-, three-quar-terbred ewe lambs 20/6 t» 22/3, twotooth halfbred ewes 29/6 to 31/1, four and six-tooth three-quarterbred ewes to 25/6, four and six-tooth crossbred ewes 23/6 to 25/-, sound-mouth crossbre dewes 18/- to 20/-, two-tooth crossbred ewes 21/- to 23/-, aged crossbred ewes 5/- to 8/-, better conditioned aged ewes 10/- to 12/-, four and six-tooth halfbred wethers 20/- to 21/3, two and four-tooth crossbred wethers 18/6 to 19/4, small and low conditioned crossbred wethers 13/-, two-tooth crossbred wethers 18/10.
Fat Lambs.—3loo yarded and 9d per lb ruled for 36’s and under, whilst butchers’ lambs also sold well. Extra prime to 31/1, prime 25/6 to 28/6, medium 23/9 to 25/-, light 21/6 to 23/6. Fat Sheep.—An average yarding and steady sale throughout. The ewe schedule is a farthing lower than last week, but there was no change in values. Exporters operated freely throughout. Extra prime wethers to 30/4, prime wethers 25/9 to 27/6, medium wethers 23/9 to 1 25/6, light weth-
ers 22/- to 23/6, extra prime ewes to 25/7, prime ewes 18/- to 21/6, medium ewes 15/- to 17/6, light ewes 12/9 to 14/6, aged ewes 10/- to 12/-. Fat Cattle.—A slightly smaller entry than usual. Good steers and heifpr beef sold about 10/- £ head better than last week. .Cows were unaltered. A Southland -line of 34 steers averaged £l5 5/-. Best beef 34/- to 37/6, medium quality overweight 31/- to 33/6, inferior 27/- to 30/- per 1001 b. Heavy steers to £l6 2/6, prime medium weight steeds £l3 10/- to* £l5, medium steers £ll to £l3 5/-, light stders £8 to £1 ) 10/-, extra prime heifers £ll to £l3 17/6, prime heifers £8 10/- to £lO 10/-, medium heifers £6 10/- to £8 5/-, light heifers £5 to £6 7/6, extra prime cows to £l2 7/6, prime cows £7 15/- to £9 15/-, medium cows £6 to £7 10/-, light cows £4 5/- to £5 15/-. Vealcrs.—A smaller entry. Lines for klllable sorts advanced. Runners to £7 15/-, good calves £5 5/- to £6, medium £3 15/ to £5, small and inferior 10/- to 35/-. Store Cattle.—A fairly large entry. Demand good, but hardly as keen as last week. Two and three-year steers £5 .15/- to £6 15/-, good cows to £4 10/-, medium £2 15/- to* £3 15/-, inferior £1 to £2, bulls £3 to £lO.
Fat Pigs.— A medium entry. Brians were firm at the start, but eased towards the end. Choppers, £2 10/ to £4, light baconers £3 10/- to £3 17/6, heavy baconers £4 to £4 7/6, extra heavy to £4 12/- (average price per lb, s£d to 6fd), light porkers 48/- to 55/-, heavy porkers 57/6 to 64/- (average price per lb, 7|d to,Bd). Dairy Cattle.—An entry of 49 head. Prices advanced slightly. Best second, third and fourth calvers £lO to £l3 15/-, medium £7 to £9 10/-, inferior £4 to £6 10/-, best springing heifers £8 to £l2, others £4 to £7 15/-, cows in profit, £1 15/- to £4. Store Pigs.—A small entry. The market opened on a par with late rates, but eased towards the end. Small weaners 13/- to 16/6, medium 17/- to 19/-, good 20/- to 23/-, slips 25/- to> 29/6, small 30/- to 33/-, medium 35/to 40/-, large to 53/6.—(P.A.)
