Personal. ‘ The death occurred at Featherston on Sunday evening, of Mrs. Annie Hodder, wife of Mr. William Hodder, a wellknown settler of South Wairarapa. Mr. David Kernahon, an inmate of the Buchanan Home, Greytown, died at the institution at the week-end. The deceased was 67 years of age and had lived in various parts of the Wairarapa for a number of years. Sports Club.

A movement is on foot to form a sports club in Martinborough.

Rifle Club. The final match for the Greytown Defence Rifle Club’s 'No. 1 competition was fired on Saturday at ranges 80u and 900 yards, 10 shots. The contest resulted in a win for Rifleman T. Orr, with a margin of three points from J. C- Feast. The best total for the day’s shoot was put up by Rifleman F. J. Nicholls (96) with T. Orr next with 94. FEATHERSTON. (“The Age” Special). The following are the results to date in a competition for a combined doubles trophy, which is being played for by the Featherston Croquet Club: Mesdames Rowles and Ayre lost to Mesdames Vincent.and Holland; Mesdames Coombs and McKenzie lost to Mesdames Williams and. Watson; Mesdames Combs and McKenzie lost to Mesdames Fairbrother and Warren.

On Monday morning, on behalf of the staff of the Featherston Post Office, the postmaster, Mr. Nelson, presented Mr. Kirby, who has been transferred to Masterton, with a case of pipes. In making the presentation, Mr. Nelson spoke in eulogistic terms of the manner in which Mr. Kirby had fulfilled bis duties, and wished him every success in his new position. Mr. C. W. Houghton has been appointed to the position left vacant by Mr. Kirby’s departure. 7, <1

Mr. H. Bloxham, manager of the iFeatherston branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has resumed his duties after his annual vacation.

The monthly meeting of the Featherston School Committee was held on Tuesday night, the headmaster’s report being as follows:—Roll: primary, old pupils 220, new pupils 20, total 248. Secondary: old pupils, 21, new pupils, 21, total 42. Grand total, 290. The number of assistant teachers has been reduced by one. It is possible, however, that another appointment may yet be made to the position 6f additional assistant. Miss Goodwin, M.A., is relieving till June 3 in place of Miss Patterson. Miss A. McDonald and Mr C. J. Bishop are willing to organise a swimming carnival, which is recommended to the committee. •
