DISASTROUS JOY RIDE.
SMASH IN HAWKE’S BAY. HASTINGS, February 7. A smash ended the joyride of' fwo men on the Te Ante Road on Saturday night. One man was badly injured, but the other decamped. The name of the injured man is believed to be May, but the missing man’s name is unknown. The car, a three-seater belonging to Mr. A. Irwin, of Napier, alleged to have been taken from a parking place in Napier, finished its illicit spin over a bank near The Kennels, Pakapaki.
Two motorists arrived on the scene in time to see the missing man departing in haste, leaving his injured accomplice behind. They brought May into Hastings, and he was taken to the Napier Hospital, where he now lies in a serious condition. He is unable to give an account of the accident. The car was badly wrecked.—(P.A.)
