FARMERS AT ODDS.
CHARGES OF SLANDER AND
ASSAULT.
STRATFORD. February 7.
At the Magistrate's Court, Frederick G. Stoekley sued Alexander G. Stewart for £2OO as damages for three allegedly slanderous statements, the statements insinuating that Stoekley had shot one of Stewart's cows in the udder with a. shotgun. Both parties are farmers at Ki ore. Stoekley also claims £25 for assault. Plaintiff alleges that the first statement was made in a wpolshed before a shearing team, the second on the Kiore Railway, Station, before a certain witness, and the third, at his request, before other witnesses. After much evidence had) been taken, the hearing was adjourned till next Court day.—(P.A.)
