(“The Age” Special),
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Cameron are isiting Wanganui.
The accommodation of the school is taxed to its utmost. Mrs. Childs, the sole teacher, finds it very difficult to do justice to the younger scholars, as the roll numbers over 40, with an average attendance of 35. -
Rifle Shooting. The opening shoots of a series of matehes was fired on Saturday between teams representing the Alfredton, Tararua and Mauriceville rifle clubs for the Triangular Cup. The weather was lino with a light north-west wind and but for a slightly glaring light, shooting was by no means difficult. Afternoon tea and luncheon provided by the Tararua ladies added greatly to the pleasure of the day. The Mauriceville team certainly showed lack of form and solid practice will be necessary to enable the club to hold its own in the two return matches the first of which is to take place on February 26. The trophy was won outright last year by the Alfredton’Club who very generously have donated the trophy again for competition.
Following are the scores:— Alfredton. —A. Leach 93, H. Percy 91, H. Seymour 91, A. Napier 89, G. Napier 88, A. Weston 86, J. McDonald 85, A. Edmonds 84, total 707. Tararua: I. Sijvertsen 92, P.
