MOTOR ACCIDENT.
MISS M. CUMMINS SERIOUSLY INJURED. The overturning of a light ear which shielded in some loose metal on the main. Masterton-Carterton Road on Saturday afternoon, was attended with serious consequences, resulting in the 'admission to hospital of Miss Mary Cummins, of Akura, who lies in the institution in a critical condition.
The car contained a party of three, Miss Cummins, with her younger sister, who was driving, and Mr. A. Dalrymple. When about two hundred yards south of the creek over which a new bridge is being built, the car was swung to the left to allow another car to pass. Owing to the extremely light weight of the car, it failed to negotiate the loose metal and turned completely over. The driver and Mr. Dalrymple escaped with comparatively light injuries, but tly? elder Miss Cummins was heavily on her head and received severe scalp wounds as well as cuts and abrasions to the face and shoulders. Assistance was rendered by passing motorists, who righted the damaged car and arranged for the removal of Miss Cummins to the Masterton Hospital. It was learned last evening that her condition was critical.
