RATES FOR CRUTCHING.

OWNERS OPPOSE FLAT RATE. CONFERENCE ENDS IN DEADLOCK CHRISTCHURCH, February 3. After sitting in conference for an hour to-day, representatives of the Sheepowners’ Federation and the Shearers’ Unio>, who had met to discuss the union’s proposal for a flat rate for crutching, reached a deadlock. The delegates represented the whole of New Zealand and the conference was recommended by Mr. Justice Frazer. The sheepowners’ delegates stated that they could not agree to a flat rate, which would not be in the interests of the shcepowners or the shearers. They preferred to leave the responsibility on the Court.—(P.A.)
