Miss N. Cocker has returned from a holiday trip and has taken up dutiea an Plunket nurse in Masterton.
A message from Auckland reports the death of Mrs. Calder, widow of Archdeacon Calder, at the age of 79. Mr. C. Corkill, who was admitted to the Masterton Hospital a few days ago suffering from sunstroke, left the institution yesterday. The death occurred in Auckland yesterday of Mr. Henry Wetherilt, aged 90, formerly Chief Inspector of Machinery and Surveyor of Ships. He was a survivor of the Elingamite wreck.
It is unofficially announced that Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Goodwin has been appointed Governor of Queensland. The appointment is hailed with satisfaction in all quarters. Lieu-tenant-General Sir Thomas Goodwin, K.C.8., D. 5.0., is a distinguished surgeon, who was born in Ceylon in 1871, the eldest son of Surgeon-Major J. Goodwin, of the Army Medieal Corps. He won his D.S.O. at the Battle of Shabkadar in India in 1597, being mentioned three times in dispatches, winning several medals and foreign decorations. He married Miss Lilian Ronaldson in 1897.
