THE POLICE FORCE.

The Minister of Justice has under consideration the question of increasing the pay of all members or the Police Force. At the present time the pay of an ordinary is only 14b per day, while Senior Sergeants are not in receipt of a greater remuneration that a working carpenter. It is recognised that the cost of iiving will never return to the prewar standard, and that wages roust be adjusted to meet the new conditions. The increased pay of public servants will involve higher charges upon tho taxpayers of the Dominion. These, however, will bo accepted philosophically, always provided that their incidence is equitable. If any branch of tho public service is deserving of better pay, it is that upon which the peace and security of the people so much depends.
