In "Tiio Rotters" at the Masterton Opera House last night, Migs.FredisA r yde Hunter-Watts again wore some /ery charming dresses. In the first ict she wore a motoring coat—a model nade by Mons. Poiret, of Paris-—of jhantung silk, faced with terra cotta leavy linen, and steel" buttons. In the xoxt act Miss Hunter-Watts wore an jxqUisit<? gown of mauve georgette, .ler next appearance was in a negligee xfxblue and pink ninon, trimmed with jeautiful malines lace. Another very triking costume was a light blue jersey cloak-frock from Altman, Fifth ivenue, New York.'* With this, she ,vore a coloured Oriental turban, and ;he finishing , touch was given by a leavy string of red beads. Miss! iunter-Watts appeared in the last icene in a beautiful gown of black georgette relieved with white.
It is difficult to realise the, triumph of the Prince of. Walks' Western tour unless you have seen the 1000 feet Sim recording his visit to New York, land the more comprehensive one of i*is 10,000 miles journey through Canada, says an English paper. The drat is already going the rounds of Che theatres, but the Jatter has only once been exhibited to the public. This was when it was shown at the Albert Hall the other day, before a crowded audience, which included the King and Quefln, the Prince himself, and other members of the Koyal Family. NTo one enjoyed the film more thtin the party in the Eoyal, box. 'Princess jlary and Prince Albert were particularly amused, at their brother's nervous tricks of fingering his tie tyhen ne faced the -cheering multitudes; and of screwing up his.gloves into a compact;, ball'when called on to make a speech. < , •
'Sir 1 Ronald Munro Ferguson, the Governor-General of Australia,* has evidently a very high , opinion of French womankind. In laying the foundation stone of a girl's hostel recently in. Sydney, he said:—"The most influential woman in the world is, I believb, the Frenchwoman. She has no vote, and no excessive rights of property; but she is a great power in the land because she is perhaps the best ruler in the home—applause —and the most devoted of mothers, having a firm grip Of the family purse —(laughter)—and holding authority over her family to the third and fourth generation. This, has in no way prevented her from being on© of the best, business women, because she 13 able at any moment to transfer her power of organisation, her thrift and capable management, from the home to the larger sphere of commerce. ,
■ 'The International Suffrage News gives the following clauses of the new Naturalisation Act m Canada, which affect woman(a) She may take out naturalisation papers, as if she were a feminine sole; (b) if marriage ia annulled for any reason she can get a certificate of naturalisation ' without fulfilling the full qualifications re residence again; (c) if her husband changes his nationality after marriage she many retain her British nationality on a declaration to that effect ; (d) if -her alien husband becomes a© enemy of the King she may regain her British nationality at" once if the Secretary of State thinks it safe for her to do so. With' regard to the amended Franchise Act in Canada a clause says:—"For the purposes of this Act the allegiance and nationality of a person as it was at the birth of such person shall be deemed incapable of being changed or of having been changed, merely by reason of or in consequence of marriage, or | change of allegiance or naturalisation of any other person, or otherwise than by personal naturalisation of such first-mentioned person." A further clause provides that while European born aliens (men and women) must be personally naturalised, alien women from the U.S.A. married to Canadians become Canadians too, but they only need a voting certificate, that is they are stated to bo fit subjects to vote without fulfilling the five years' residence necessary for naturalisation papers. Also Canadian women married to aliens and living in Canda do not lose their vot* if otherwise qualified, even though 1 legally they are • aliens*
