MR. HORNSBY.
The movement .in the Wairarapa electorate to recognise the services of Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, who, for many years, represented the electorate in Parliament, is deserving of the fullest commendation. Apart from all political considerations, Mr Hornsby was recognised as an industrious member, who did not spare himself or seek his own advantage in the performance of his manifold duties to the people of the Dominion. It is a thousand pities that a superannuation scheme has not been provided for members of Parliament, as for those employed in various branches of the public service. In the absence of such a scheme, it is the duty of those who have had the benefit of the services of an assiduous worker for » period of years to see that in his declining years he is not thrown entirely upon his own resources.
