POLICE PROMOTIONS
SOME IMPOBTANT CHANGES.

The 'Commissioner of Police has announced the following promotions and transfers in connection with the 'detective branch of the Police Force: Detective-Sergt. S. Rawle, who has been doing duty with the local detective staff for a number of years, has, been transferred to the uniform branch with the rank of sergeant, and given charge of the .Greyxoouth office. He left to take up Ida new duties to-day. Detective-Sergt. Cameron, .who for many years was in charge of the Invereargill office of the detective branch, has been promoted, to the rank of senior detective and transferred to' Christchur'ch. *, ' ' Dctective-Sergfit Kemp, of Dunedin, has also been appointed a senior detective, and will remain at his present station. .. The promotions of Detective Sergt. Cameron and Detective-Sergt; Kemp are the first, fruits of the recommendations made, by the committee which sat last year for the purpose of adjusting matters between thp .uniform' branch'of the service and the detective branch. The rank of-senior detective is equivalent to that of senior in the uniform branch.i
These changes in the detective force will involve transfers and interchanges for many members of the detective staff; throughout the Dominion, and it is probable that some of the will not take place #ll after the Eoyal visit. , As,an outcome of these transfers, the appointment of probationary detectives to full rank Will fbllow, and additional probationary detectives will have to be appointed. The Commissioner informed a reporter that the "question of increased pay for both branches of the service is , at present under..consideration by the ; Minister of Justice.
