PALMERSTON MURDER
* WARRANT FOR ARREST OF HARRY DEELEY, . REWARD OF £2OO OFFERED. Within a few hours after the discovery of the body of Mrs Mary Ethelin Webby, who was > brutally mur-; dered at Palmerston North on the night of 18th instant, a warrant was issued by the police for the arrest of Harry Deeley in connection the outragei ; The Commissioner of Police, Mr J. O'Donovan, states that the Governmen have offered a reward of £2OO for information leading to the arrest of Deeley. He is described as a labouring man, 37 years of age, about sft 6in in height, a native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, heavy fat cheeks, round head and face, dark brown short moustache, snuling expression, weight about 12 stone. He may be wearing a blue serge suit, a light grey soft felt hat with a black band, and a soft shirt and white collar.
"A man who has a wife and family needs a pound a day these days." This is what a police constable with a first-class record told a Dunedin Star reportor. In order to withstand the pressure of the increasing cost of living the constable is resigning from the police force to go rabbiting. ;
