Mr. M. Myers returned to Wellington yesterday from Masterton. Mr. F. B. Ward, of the Department of Agriculture, will address a meeting of farmers at Tinui to day.

The Chief Justice, his Honour Sir Robert Stout, and his associate, Mr. Le Grove, returned to Wellington from Masterton by the afternoon train yesterday.

The death has taken place at Auckland of Captain Samuel Cochrane at the age of 78 years. In his younger days he served in the British, American, and Chilian navies at various intervals.

It is understood that Sir James Allen has resigned as member for Bruce, and the vacancy will be gazetted in a day or two. The - byelection will probably take place in abotit three weeks.

Among those who have offered assistance in tho landing pageant at in connection with tho Prince of Wa)cs' visit is Mr. William Udy, of Greytown, who arrived at Pctorie On February 16, 1840, and who is now 82 years of age. After a lengthy, illness, Mr. W. F. Burgess died at the Wairau Hospital. The deceased, who. was 64 years of age, was born in Wellington, and was educated in England. "He was in the Lands and Survey Department of New Zealand for many years, and subsequently practised as an architect in various places, including Blenheim.

The Rev. W. Sharp, who was a resident of Timaru many years ago, died in Tasmania roccntly from heart failure. Mr. Sharp was a Congregational minister, and left Timaru to become pastor of the Memorial Congregational Church, Hobart, where he remained for about thirty years. Recently lie had retired from ministerial work. Dr. Stanley Sharp, of Otaki, is a son of deceased. A veteran of the Maori war, Mr. Richard Cox, died on March 16. Deceased arrived here in the oarly "sixties," and was a well-known rifle shot in the days-.of the volunteer move-, ment. Mr. Cox, in company with the late Mr. James Mackay, was one of the party that put in the first peg in the Thames goldfielck Deceased is sur-, vived by a widow and grqwn-up (family. The death ocoured on. February 25, at her daughter's residence, Wellington, of Mrs John Henry Walker, lato of Mangatainoka, at the age of 72. The deceased lady loaves' a husband and grown-up family of three sons and six daughters, and 35 grandchildren. Tho sons are: Messrs James Walker, iGisborne; George Walker, Palmerston North,- and Alex Walker, Wellington. Daughters: Mesdames E. Ward, Palmerston; P. Allen, Makiro; D. Kennedy, Wellington; W. King, Waihi; J. son, Tauranga; E. Edwards, Wellington.

The death occured at WJri (Auckland) last week of Mrs Stewart , Wylie, wife of the Eev. Eobert Wylie, iretired Presbyterian minister. Mrs. Wylie came of a old and well known 'Scottish family! When only four years old she showed evidences of rare musical ability. She wrote many songs and painof orte solos, both sacred and secular. In 1884 she married Mr Wylie, and came to New Zealand 22 years ago, settling at Onehunga, where her husband ministered until his retirement on account of ill health.
