Carterton.

Mr W. Compton has withdrawn from the Carterton Meat Company, and the business will in future be controlled by Mr W. Kempton. 'i'he action of Carterton residents in promoting a fittng testimonial to Mr J. T. M. Horns by, ex-M.P., will recurve the endorsement and,support of all shades of political opinion in the elecforate. Mr Hornsby has proved himself an enterprising and fearles*

With a break of six years only Mr Hornsby has sat in Parliament for 21 years, an i monuments' to his industry are to hr\ found everywhere in the district. It is fitting that the electors should show their appreciation of his services in a tangible manner. Those who feel they are entitled to subscribe to the memorial are asked to send their cheques as early as possible to Mr W. Howard Booth (treasurer), or Mr Kitchen secretary. The Mayor's relief fund in aid of the wife and family of the late Sergt. Wiley has reached £9 4s, the additional subscriptions being: Messrs R. W. Boydhouso £1 1«, W. A. Kitchen, £1 Is. Four rinks from the Carterton Bowling * Club have entered for the Easter tourney at Palmerston North. The Carterton Bowling Club is holding a pairs tourney during Easter, and two gold medals have been allotted as prizes. Players are expected from outside clubs.

A social and dance in aid of the Hall funds is to/ be held at Dalefleld this evening. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt "here shortly after midnight on Wednesday. A female the worse for liquor was lodged in, the lock-up yesterday afternoon.
