CANTERBURY 'FARMERS' REQUEST.

At to-day's meeting of the North Canterbury Fanners' Union the following motion was carried: "That, in view of the volumo and value of our Dominion exports of wool, meat, dairy produce, etc., it is essential that some provision be made for the safeguarding of the interests of- the Dominion's producers when the existing contracts with the Imperial Government terminatej To thi3 end the executive suggests to the Dominion Governs vat the advisability of retaining Sir inomas Mackenzie in the capacity of Produce Commissioner for New Zealand, being of the opinion that the wide cxperienco gained during his many years of close connection with our trade and commerce eminently qualifies him to fill the position. >
