A ROYAL RANCH
OWNER WILL BE IN WANGANUI NEXT MONTH. The ranch which the Prince of Wales is establ.sliing near Calgary (Alberta, Canada), consists, so an American journal tells us, of some 10,000 acres. It is in the heart of great pastoral country, and the royal jwner is starting out on lines that a m at making it a payable commercial proposition The manager of an adjoining ranch (Mr W, I. Y. Carlyle} has recently returned to Canada from England, where he assisted in purchas.ng for the Prince's venture a select lot of. cattle and sheep. The young rancher is sticking to estab--1 shed British breeds, the purchase j including 20 Shorthorn heifers bred to Christian King, including a few. show prdspects, all of the yearling Shropshire ewes from the Duke of i Westminster's flock, and 10 thoroughbred fillies. It is intended to exhibit a few of the Shorthorns at Western Canadian shows next season. It is the young owner's intention to add Percheron horses, which are now in the boom in America, to the breeds of sheep and cattle mentioned. Mr Carlyle, who has been directing the buying, is a Canadian farmer and farm manager of wide experience, graduate of Ontario Agricultural College, and wa3 for a period Professor of Animal Husbandry at lowa Agricultural College, and later director and head of the Colorado Agricultural College.
