THE DISCARDED WHITE LINEN SHIRT.
White wear' is charming, but it is expensive in the long run, owing to washing and cleaning expenises. For thiß reason m?my g:fle have practically given up wearing white washing frocks, arid one girl of this mind has conceived the practical idea of cutt'ag up a wide full, white- linen shirt of thick quality into duchess stripes for the toilet table. The idea iias worked out extremely well, 'iiie end of each strip she has hemmed "a jour," and the email amount of extra trouble entailed has, been well worth while, the open-wprk adding -cons : derably to the daintiness of the article. - | Girls who are making little homes of their own in one robin or two rooms may be glad to work upon the idea in their endeavour# to economise. Those who can crochet, may go a step farther and beautify the duchesse strips by adding crochet lace at each end, Good white linen shirts, if full, for which a girl has no further use may, again, foe cut up anl made into face-towels or pillow cases, wlrle, of course, they can always be turned, to practical account as knickers linings.
