"The Romneys in England cannot compare with the wpol of the New Zealand Romneys, and I also think that we have a better class of Holstcin in this country," stated Mr F. B. Ward, the newly appointed Agricultural officer for the Wairarapa, at a farmers' meeting at Carterton on Saturday.
"It does not follow that because you are on a limestone formation, that you do not need to use lime. it certainly sounds very contradictory, out a lime formation is not a guarantee," stated Mr F. B. Ward, an Agricultural officer, at Saturday's meeting of the Farmers' Union at Jarterton.
"I understand that under the Peace Treaty our supply of the phosphates from Nauru Island, would be 100,000 tons yearly. But under the present conditions, it will be a very considerable time before we will obtain any of that share," stated Mr F. B. Ward, of the Agricultural Department, in the course of an address to Carterton farmers on Saturday last.
"There is in this district, as in other parts of the Dominion, a great deficiency of manures. I know farmers who are unable to procure manure from the freezing works, because of the lack of super-phosphates," stated Mr D. Hebenton, of the Farmers' Union., when urging that strong representations be made to the Minister of Agriculture in regard to adequate supplies of manure for the district, at a farmers' meeting at Carterton on Saturday afternoon. The meeting unanimously decided to approach the Minister in connection with the matter.
